Scrap The Grades – This College Is Asking For Selfie Applications

A new way of schooling...

Sitting the Leaving Cert is one of the most painful experiences you’ll ever experience. From sweating the grades, to studying for the all-important points, the stress of going to college can really stress someone out.

Now one US college is making a change to its college applicants.

Instead of grades or exams, they want students to submit a selfie video.

Goucher College, a small liberal arts school in Towson, Maryland, is inviting prospective students to submit their applications by making a two-minute video talking about who you are by answering the prompt:

“How do you see yourself at Goucher?”

Along with the video, the candidates are asked to submit two examples of projects you did in high school, including at least one graded writing assignment.

There will also be a signed statement of academic integrity and a short application to fill out.

Goucher claim they won’t look at past academic transcripts or test scores when reviewing the applications.

Speaking at the decision to move away from traditional testing, the school’s president, José Antonio Bowen said:

“We just want to understand something about you and how you’ll fit in here at Goucher. We’re doing this because higher education should be about potential and not about privilege.”
