TV talent scouts are arriving in Ireland to scour the country for the next upcoming Irish star as Mrs Brown’s Boys and Moone Boy become blockbuster hits.

Top comedian Pat Shortt said yesterday that Moone Boy has become the 21st century Father Ted with the best of Irish comedians appearing on the Roscommon-based show.

And he said that Brendan O’Carroll’s BAFTA winning Mrs Brown’s Boys has sparked a new flurry of interest in Irish wit.

He spoke to Ray D’Arcy yesterday on Today FM about the potential many young Irish have to make it big.

“At the moment there are a talent scouts coming over from the UK from television looking at comedians and what’s going on.

“They are looking for the next Mrs Brown and Moone Boy.”

Ireland is putting itself on the world comedy map…

Mrs Brown’s Boys has the world watching our comedy scene.

Cult comedy Father Ted helped to launch the careers of several top Irish stars including Graham Norton, Dervla Kirwan, Tommy Tiernan, Joe Rooney and Jason Byrne.

Shortt, who also appeared on the satirical show is now one of many Irish stars to appear in Chris O’Dowd’s Moone Boy. And with O’Dowd’s hilarious Hollywood reputation, the whole world is watching.

Shortt said Moone Boy and Father Ted have similarities; “It’s a bit like Father Ted, Deirdre Kane is in it, Peter McDonald, Simon Delaney…”

Cult comedy Father Ted launched some of Ireland’s biggest comedians into the world’s limelight.

Shortt is preparing for a nationwide tour at the moment on the life of his character Dixie Walsh.

Keep an eye out for those scouts Shortt… we always knew our Irish wit had to be appreciated sometime!
