Ronan Keating revealed that he once battled against Leonardo DiCaprio for a part in Moulin Rouge.

The former Boyzone singer said he was disappointed when he didn’t score a role in the 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman.

However, the pain was lessened when Ronan found out Leo had failed to nab the role also in favour of Ewan McGregor.

Speaking to Ian Dempsey on Today FM the singer said: “I was in Sydney with DiCaprio and he said he read for it as well.

“We both had to read and we both had to sing. I said to him how crap I was at acting.

“He said ‘You think you’re crap at acting you would want to hear me singing!””

Ronan is due to star in Goddess, which will make its screen debut in Ireland on February 14.

Ronan will play the marine biologist husband of an aspiring singer and said the film is touching and enjoyable.

“It’s really cute, it’s a romantic comedy. I sing a couple of songs. It was great making it, I loved it,” he said.

Ronan is set to his latest album, Fire, which will be released in September.

Ronan officially split from his wife Yvonne in April.
