There was plenty of drama on Irish airwaves this week as a Mr Michael McLoughlin called into 4FM’s Niall Boylan Show and said he had cheated on his wife with a number of her friends.
The story took another twist when a listener recognised his voice and said she would tell his wife everything.
Michael’s wife Anne then called the show and told her husband “to find himself a shelter”.
The story spread quickly on social media but it seems it was all an elaborate hoax, dreamed up by Michael.
He told the Irish Examiner how things unfolded: “It wasn’t a planned prank, I just came up with it on the spot.
“Niall asked if I’d tell on a friend if I knew he was cheating so I said no, sure haven’t I had three affairs myself. It just exploded from there.”
And as for the women who went on air?
“They were all friends of mine that rang up. I rang a few of them and they were more than happy to help me out with it.
“I couldn’t believe some of the abuse I was getting about it on social media. Reading the comments on Facebook I was shocked people actually fell for it. That’s why I rang my friends and got them to get involved too when the Niall Boylan Show asked me to go back on air.
“People will believe anything”.
