Austria is set to host the 60th Eurovision Song Contest, and to mark its reign as host to the international event, Vienna is introducing gay themed traffic lights.

Showing their support for one of the highlights of the international gay (and Her.ie) calendar, the local council has swapped dozens of their standard pedestrian lights with a series of programmed lights showing male of female gay couples.
The new lights are also hoping to help improve traffic safety, with a spokesperson for Vienna city’s lighting department saying the new symbols have already garnered greater attention from drivers and pedestrians.
Austria will host the annual Eurovision Song Contest this year following their win with Conchita Wurst last year, whose song ‘Rise like a Phoenix’ scooped the title.
