Irish pensioner James Gray, who sent out a plea for a companion during the Christmas season has received hundreds of cards wishing him well!
The 85-year-old retired butler who’s living in the UK got in touch with the Irish Post and the story spread like wildfire, with hordes of well-wishers offering to welcome him into their homes for Christmas.
With the help of media outlets, The Irish Post managed to organise the delivery of cards to James’ home. His reaction was priceless.
“Do you really need such a big box? Or is that just for the photo,” he asked them when they arrived with the box of close-to 300 cards.
“You said this was just the first lot,” he exclaimed.
“I thought maybe there would be nine or 10 cards because I didn’t get a single one for my birthday.
“But these are going to keep me busy until the New Year!”

According to the Irish Post , they’re expecting more deliveries from Uruguay, Hawaii, the US and Australia.
“I wish I could have all these people in my flat for a party, but those days are gone” he said. “There used to be 20 or 30 in here at one time for a party, but not anymore.”
“It is a pity I did not do this some years ago, but I suppose it is never too late.”
Well done to all at the Irish Post and to the public for truly getting into the Christmas spirit. We at Her.ie wish James the very best for Christmas and a happy New Year!
