I wouldn’t be best pleased if I thought there was a tarantula sauntering around my neighbourhood.
Neither were the residents of Lisburn, Antrim yesterday when they believed the spider had shed its skin and embarked on an adventure.
It all began when a woman found the skin of a tarantula on her garden footpath.
Advance Veterinary Care shared the image, warning people of the potential risks.
“WARNING – found on garden path in Lisburn (Drumbeg Drive Moira Road end) A lady was brushing her garden path today when she came across this. It looks like a tarantula has shed its skin. Please be careful if you come across the spider as they can fire hairs, when they feel threatened, which can cause pain and discomfort if they enter the eyes, nose and mouth area. This spider may have escaped and someone could be desperately looking for it. It will not survive long outside in our climate. If you see the spider, place a cup/pot over it and contact the USPCA”
Naturally commenters were bricking it.
“Thank fek I don’t live in Lisburn , and sorry for all you tarantula lovers but I’d be bashing that babies brains out with whatever I could find, then I’d go home and change my pants” wrote one.
“You’re winding me up? How could you lose a tarantula? Il not sleep tonight now knowin that things running around the place, it’s prob sitting in my room knowing my luck” wrote another.
There was just a general consensus of panic.
That was until it was revealed that the whole incident was an unfortunate prank.
Advance Veterinary Care updated their post informing people that a young girl had brought the skin home from school to play a prank on her mam.
“Just to let you know that I got given the tarantula skin to scare my mum but it flew out of my hand, so there’s nothing to worry about!” she wrote.
You can sleep again Lisburn.
