Have you put off auditioning for the X-Factor because you’re in the slightly more, ahem, mature age bracket of over 25? Not to worry, because you could still have a chance.
The Irish Sun reports that Simon Cowell has officially ripped up the X-Factor rulebook because he is fed up of missing out on talented singers who don’t fall into any of the current age categories.
So Simon has changed the upper age limits for the Boys, Girls and Groups categories from 25 to 28 and the slightly older age group will now be known as the ‘Over-28s.’ Awesome. These changes now mean that anyone over the age of 25 will have a better chance of getting into the live shows.
“Last year’s crop of wannabes was awful, largely because there were too many youngsters. Lots of girls and boys in their late twenties auditioned but there was no room for them because the Over-25s category had to have the quirky older ones in it to make it work,” said a source.
“The show basically snookered itself, so Simon has decided to make the change. And this year there are again loads of amazing performers who are older than 25 but younger than 28,” the source added.
The source stressed that show bosses were keen to keep the new age limits in place and were confident that the changes would make this year’s show the best ever.
But this isn’t the first time that Simon has shaken up the age limits. He did the same thing a mere two years ago when One Direction and Matt Cardle were contestants.
Will you be watching the X-factor this year?
