Niamh Dwyer Crowned Premier League Player of The Year By Basketball Ireland

Niamh Dwyer of Team Montenotte Hotel in Cork has been announced as the Women’s Premier League Player of the Year 2014/15 by Basketball Ireland. 

The full list of recipients of the annual awards, which will be held on Saturday, June 6th, were announced today and sees players across all levels of the game honoured for their achievements over the last 12 months.

Cork teams dominated the prizes at Premier League level with Dwyer picking up the Women’s Premier League Player of the Year award while her Team Montenotte Hotel coach Mark Scannell won the Coach of the Year award for guiding the Glanmire outfit to a League and Cup double.

Meanwhile Edel Thornton picked up the Women’s Premier League Young Player of the Year award for the second time in three years.

Elsewhere, Jennifer Morabito is the Women’s Division One Player of the Year while coach of Portlaoise Panthers Peter O’Sullivan retained his Coach of the Year title in this Division as the Midlanders won two out of the three trophies they fought for.

Speaking after the announcement, Basketball Ireland Secretary General Bernard O’Byrne said: “These awards reflect the high standards set by the basketball community in Ireland.

“Players, coaches and officials across every strata of the game are constantly striving to improve and the sport of basketball can only improve with them.”

Women’s Underage Coach of the Year: Yvonne Bracken (Colaiste Chiarain Leixlip)

Women’s Collegiate Player of the Year: Kelsey Harris (UL Huskies)

Senior Referee Development Award: Emma Perry
