London 2012 opened with a traditional feel-good flourish as we were treated to a ‘Hey Jude’ chorus with Sir Paul McCartney, but now it is set to take a more modern twist as we will bid goodbye to the Games on a note with Mullingar boy Niall Horan.
The Irish One Direction lad will bring down the curtain on London 2012 tonight when the boyband will sing at the Closing Ceremony.
The 18-year-old said he is thrilled to be taking to the stage with a host of big-name stars for the massive event in the English capital.
The boyband will appear alongside world-famous including The Spice Girls, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Take That, Coldplay and Elbow.

The One D boys will be driven around the arena as they sing…
A source told the Irish Sun the boys have been told not to reveal any secrets about the performance tonight but all of them have expressed their excitement about the show.
The lads are expected to perform their hit single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ on the back of a truck as they are driven around the stadium track.
The closing ceremony is entitled, ‘A Symphony of British Music’, and is expected to continue the musical trend of the opening night. The British know their strong points, and the history of their music is one of them.

Chris Martin, part of one of the world’s biggest bands Coldplay, is ready for his show tonight.
Competing athletes will parade around the arena before the musical performances kick off. The gig will begin at 7pm and will feature more than 4,100 performers, including 3,500 adult volunteers and 380 schoolchildren.
The ceremony will start with a 20-minute ‘Day in The Life of London’ segment, followed by music spanning the 20th century.
