Mr. Brightside Singer Brian O’Sullivan Responds to Becoming a Viral Sensation

Cassie Delaney

This weekend, everyone was touched by Brian O’Sullivan’s magnificent tribute to his late friend Ger Foley, who passed away aged 45 from cystic fibrosis complications.

Brian’s musical tribute to his friend even garnered the attention of The Killers themselves who tweeted the Kerryman.

Now Brian has spoken out about the video that made him an internet star. Speaking to the Anton Savage show, Brian said: “his friend Ger was a remarkable man, who had bravely fought illness for most of his life.”

Brian told the show that the reason that they sang Mr. Brightside at his wake was that they sang it every New Years Eve.

Brian is hoping that the video will raise awareness of organ donation. Brian explains that Ger had a lung transplant 12 years ago.

Brian says that without the transplant, Ger would never have had his children.

The pair had been friends since meeting in the 80’s and bonded over their love of music.

Brian also said that despite the international attention and notice from The Killers, Ger’s favourite band were actually The Waterboys.
