Met Éireann Issues Weather Warnings as Winds Batter the Country

If you're out and about today, take extra care.

If you’re heading out with an umbrella today, you need to make sure you’re holding onto it tightly… in fact, you might want to reconsider taking one at all.

Met Éireann has issued an orange status wind warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. These areas could experience gusts of up to 110 kilometres per hour.

The forecaster also issued a yellow status wind warning for Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon which will also see strong to gale force winds.

Thankfully, the stormy conditions are expected to ease off later in the day with winds dying down and the heavy downpours turning into drizzle. Temperatures are expected to drop to between 3 and 7 degrees Celsius this evening.

Motorists are being warned to take extra care today due to the risk of fallen debris and stretches of exposed roads. A number of flights and ferries have also been cancelled because of the weather conditions.
