Actor Martin Sheen is to join his son on the small screen after a six-year break from acting.

The last time we said goodbye to the 72-year old on our screens was before he stepped down as the US President in the famed television series, ‘The West Wing’.

The actor’s new role should be a doddle for the ‘Apocalypse Now’ star. We’ll see some more entertaining inter-family acting as Martin plays his son Charlie Sheen’s father in the new comedy series, ‘Anger Management’.

The series stars Charlie, 46, who plays a former baseball player turned anger management coach with issues of his own.

‘Anger Management’ producers are hoping Sheen senior’s appearance in the ninth episode will make the show a success. The first series is only ten episodes long and will air here in Ireland on Comedy Central in the autumn.

The show’s executive, John Landgraf, said the entry of Martin will give the show an extra dimension.

“It will make it a multi-generational show,” he said. Landgraf is expecting the audience to be tuning in to see some father and son onscreen entertainment.

Martin’s son Charlie, who was famously fired from the ‘Two and a Half Men’ television series after a series of drink and drug-fuelled meltdowns, said he’s excited about the show.

“I’m excited as hell,” he said. “I’m not insane anymore.”
