Love/Hate Star Jumps Ship With Role in New BBC Drama

He has certainly made a name for himself on Irish television but now it seems the actor wants to do the same in the UK.

He has become one of the most-recognisable faces on Irish television and now he’s making a move to the BBC.

But don’t worry, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor who plays Nidge in Love/Hate isn’t leaving the popular crime series (well, not that we know anyway).

Tom is best known for playing Nidge in crime series Love/Hate.

The 34-year-old actor will play an IRA man in a six-part drama series alongside Cillian Murphy this year.

While the show will see Tom playing a rather ironic role, Peaky Blinders sounds just as gritty as the programme that catapulted him to fame. Set in Birmingham in 1919, it’s about a group of soldiers smuggling guns back from the trenches.

A source told the Irish Independent: “Given Tom’s character Nidge spent the last series of Love/Hate on the run from the IRA, it’s ironic he should end up playing an IRA man in his next big TV role.”

He will star alongside Cillian Murphy in the new BBC drama series.

But, like we said, there’s no word of him leaving the RTÉ show just yet. Speaking about it, Tom said: “It’s an Irish show, set in Ireland, made by Irish people and by an Irish cast and crew. As long as it goes down in Ireland, that’s the main thing.”

Shooting for the fourth series of Love/Hate is said to begin next month which means we’ll be seeing an awful lot of Tom in 2013. Not that that’s a bad thing of course!
