Joe Duffy Swaps the Microphone for the Camera

The radio presenter has a new television project in the pipeline and yes, we too are intrigued!

Joe Duffy is best known for being heard over our radio waves but it has been revealed that he will be on our television screens by the end of the year.

According to the Irish Film and Television Network the radio presenter will front his own television series for RTÉ. The show aims to celebrate people in local communities all over Ireland.

Local Heroes, by Animo Productions, apparently stems from Duffy’s ‘Fiver Fridays’ segment on his Liveline Show.

During this he would encourage people to spend an extra €5 with local businesses and retailers in order to benefit their local economies. Quite a few times we ended up with empty pockets at the end of the week because of it!

But the programme will go that one step further and follow those individuals who are helping to create jobs in their villages, towns and cities around the country.

Speaking about it, Duffy said: “There are local heroes working hard in their own communities every day to try to make sure that their cities, towns and villages are vibrant, buoyant and prosperous places to live for themselves, their families, their neighbours and their friends.”

He added: “With RTÉ Local Heroes, we have a chance not only to celebrate those people, but also to join in the fun, laughter and community spirit along the way and, hopefully, inspire people around the country to follow in their footsteps.”

The six-part series will begin filming in January although we will also get to see Duffy in action over the coming festive period as a Christmas special has been scheduled.

If you think you are the perfect fit for Duffy’s show and want to speak to him in the flesh, applications are still being accepted by RTÉ.
