It’s World Kidney Day: Here Are Five Things That Make Your Kidney Healthier

It's time our kidneys got some attention.

Alanna Alexander

Taking care of your kidneys is just as important as taking care of other vital organs like the heart.

Kidneys are responsible for removing wastes and extra fluid from blood, controlling the body’s chemical balance and blood pressure.

High blood pressure and diabetes are the most common causes of kidney disease but the right diet can help prevent it.

Berries

Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Add them to cereal, puree and sweeten them to make a dessert sauce or add them to vinaigrette dressing. You can also drink them as smoothies, juices, or punch.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit might be the most difficult fruit to eat but Naringenin which is found in Grapefruit is also present in other citrus fruits. It has been found to successfully block the formation of kidney cysts.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is good for everything: healthy skin and hair, cancer prevention, weight loss, everything. Buy virgin or extra virgin olive oil because they are higher in antioxidants. Use olive oil to make salad dressing, in cooking, for dipping bread or for marinating vegetables.

Egg Whites
