First it happened to Skins, then it happened to The Inbetweeners and now? Now it’s after happening to our beloved Gavin and Stacey. Yes. One of our favourite shows of all time has been remade Stateside and… well… it’s not pretty…
The new Fox show Us & Them is basically the American version of James Corden and Ruth Jones’ Gavin and Stacey. What this means is that all the characters have the same names but act NOTHING LIKE the original (and far superior) ones that are in the BBC version of the show.
Honestly? The US Uncle Bryn just made us cringe. Ugh.
In the US version, Jason Ritter is playing the part of Gavin while Alexis Bledel (of Gilmore Girls fame) is Stacey. Stand-up comic Dustin Ybarra has taken up the role of Smithy and Jane Kaczmarek (the angry mammy from Malcolm In The Middle) is playing Pam.
So what do you think? Personally we’re of the opinion that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We’d definitely take the original version over Fox’s attempt any day.
