Cavan’s Leona Maguire finished in second place at the European Masters today at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
The 20-year-old came tantalisingly close to bagging her first ever professional title.
She went into the final day tied in fourth position and, with one hole left to play, shared the lead with American Beth Allen – the eventual winner.

Leona is currently studying in the States.
Unfortunately for Maguire, a bogey at the last cost her a place in the play-off.
Currently ranked as world number one amateur, Maguire carded a final round 69 to finish on 11 under par, one behind the leader.
The county Cavan star, who is studying at Duke University in North Carolina, has already earned a number of accolades this season including being named Women’s Golf Coaches Association Player and Freshman of the Year.
