The Irish 3×3 Women’s basketball team have been given a somewhat tricky draw for the first European Games to be held in Azerbaijan this year.
The four-women squad has been drawn in Pool C against Spain, Slovenia and Slovakia.
Spain are the top seed in the pool, ranked at seventh in the world, while Slovenia is 15th and Slovakia 31st in the world rankings.
The Irish are ranked 25th having qualified for the Baku games directly from the 3×3 championships.
“The draw is a testing one, but that’s why we wanted to go to the games to play the best,” said Basketball Ireland secretary general, Bernard O’Byrne.
“We have great confidence in this squad to do well.”
The Irish team is made up of dynamic duo and talented sisters Gráinne and Niamh Dwyer, along with Dubliner Suzanne Maguire and Cork’s Orla O’Reilly.
