Fans of Ray D’Arcy were left reeling with the news that he was moving to RTÉ Radio 1 and the countdown is now officially on to when he takes the mic there next week.
Speaking ahead of his first show with the national broadcaster, the popular presented admitted that leaving Today FM, where he had been for the last 14 years, was difficult.
“It was unfortunate the way it happened, but it’s the nature of the business that we’re in,” he revealed to the RTÉ Guide.
“I would have loved for it to have been different, I would have loved to have been able to say a proper goodbye, but maybe a goodbye would have been premature, because we’re not gone.”

Ray will be joined on his new show by his wife Jenny along with Will Hanafin.
“Jenny finished up in June and she said at the time it was to spend more time with the kids, and that was the case – but this is a completely different day, time-wise,” he continued.
“It’s brilliant to have Jenny in to set up the thing – she just has the skills that other people don’t have. I honestly don’t think I would have made this move without Jenny.”
With just under a week until the new show kicks off – next Monday, February 2nd – Ray added; “I think my biggest worry is that we won’t be able to continue what we have done over the last 14 years.
“It’s going to be a bumpy ride because we need to get to know our listeners,” he concluded.
Ray also revealed that he had taken a pay cut to move to RTÉ.
