Well we’re relieved to see that we’re not the only ones who were bawling at our television screens when Darren from Love/Hate was killed off – apparently Robert Sheehan, the actor who plays him, also had a “little weep” about the entire thing.
The Irish Independent reports that Robert opened up about the death of his much-loved character while attending the launch of the Red or Black fundraiser for the Dunamaise Theatre in his hometown of Portlaoise.
“It was agreed that this was to be my last series. That’s the nature of it. These boys live by the sword and die by the sword,” said 24-year-old Robert.
“I didn’t know how it was going to affect me but it was a sad day,” he added.
We feel your pain Robert, we got all caught up about it too! The actor, who spent his Christmas with his family in Portlaoise, also admitted that he was “surprised” at the success of Love/Hate and paid tribute to the show’s writer and director.
“As it got better and better, RTE allowed more freedom and gave the show the free reign it deserved,” said Robert.

And while Robert has never experienced the kind of violence that’s portrayed within the gangland series, he said that friends of his have been badly beaten up in the past.
The actor stated that now he has “a few quid in the bank” he can finally pick and choose the roles that he plays.
“In the past I did a few jobs I was not 100 per cent in love with,” said Robert.
“Now I would rather go hungry than do a job I don’t like. Life is too short,” he added.
Well, we have to ask – how are you holding up now that Darren is dead? Will you watch the next series of the show if Dazzler is no longer a main fixture?
