How I Met Your Mother may be renewed for another season.
According to E! Online, the Emmy Award winning TV show is in talks for a ninth season.
The CBS show stars Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan.
CBS President of Entertainment Nina Tassler hinted that fans could expect a new season.
“They had an incredible year last year and we have a great relationship with [creators] Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. They have a strategic wrap-up to the show,” she said.
“They know we want the show to come back next year. We’re not there yet in terms of [renewing How I Met Your Mother]. We’re in early conversations and we’re pretty optimistic.”
Writer and co-creator Craig Thomas said that he wasn’t sure the programme would be renewed.
“Right now, the thing that we know to be true is we have this year and no deal for next year. So we have to proceed as though this could be the last year of HIMYM,” he said.
“Hopefully we will know soon. But we’d be thrilled to tell either story – either wrap it up this year or to tell another chapter of this story. We don’t know yet which way it’s going to go. We can’t guarantee anything. It’s not impossible it could go beyond Season 9.”
The eighth season of How I Met Your Mother will return to Channel 4 later this year.
