The cream of the Hollywood crop was at the Savoy Theatre last night for the European Premiere of Lincoln.

Oscar-nominated Daniel Day-Lewis brought himself as well as his co-star Sally Field and film director Steven Spielberg to Dublin as a fundraiser for a hospice in County Wicklow.

The actor had a big part to play in bringing the premiere to the capital city.

Speaking about the importance of the event, Day-Lewis told the Irish Independent: “We weren’t sure that it was possible to have an event like this in Ireland because it’s hard to ask people to spend money at this time.

“But having explored the idea of it, it seemed like it might just work and Steven didn’t take much persuasion to come. He was very very generous to come and Sally as well. I didn’t have to ask twice.”

A number of Irish stars also walked the red carpet on Sunday night.

And they weren’t the only familiar faces to turn up yesterday evening as U2 singer Bono, Irish model Rosanna Davison and Olympic medallist Katie Taylor were also among the guests.

Day-Lewis decided to become a patron of the Wicklow Hospice Association after they helped to care for his mother, actress Jill Balcon, who sadly passed away in 2009.
