Here’s how to get rid of the memories feature on your Facebook

Some things are best left in the past

Laura Holland

While it can be great to take a look back at all the fun times you shared on Facebook, it sometimes reminds us of things we don’t want to see.

These days when you log on to Facebook, the first thing you see is a reminder of what you did on that exact day a few years back. It could be an old photo you uploaded, a link you shared or a status update.

Either way, it’s Facebook’s way of giving you a trip down memory lane. But sometimes those memories are best left in the past and it ends up just annoying you with old images you’d rather not see.

Good news for those of you who don’t like the feature, you can disable it.

Here’s how to do it:

On your main Facebook homepage, on the left-hand side under the Apps section click on ‘On This Day‘.

On this day

Within that page go to the right-hand side and click on the Notifications button. Within that button is a dropdown menu will appear where you will be able to turn off the notifications.

Voilá, you won’t be seeing any more annoying memories popping up unexpectedly.

It will still run in the background and you can pop in yourself every now and then to see what you were up to in 2008 but you just won’t see it when you first log on.

You can go one step further as well and click on the Preferences button which will allow you to customise the memories. Facebook says you can use this filter ” to help make sure that we show you memories from On this Day in a way that’s meaningful for you.”

So you can choose to exclude certain days or people from your memories which could be very handy.
