Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected as Storm Hits Ireland

It looks like Hurricane Gonzalo has arrived.

Last week, it was revealed that Hurricane Gonzalo was set to hit Ireland after making its way across the Atlantic Ocean and now the country is starting to feel the effects of it.

According to the Irish Mirror, the storm will bring heavy rain and strong winds over the next few days and Met Éireann is warning people to brace themselves.

Forecaster Vincent O’Shea told the newspaper that all areas will be affected tonight: “Everywhere will be hit by rain and it will be worst in the west and northwest.”

He added: “We’re expecting 20 millimetres of rain to fall in most places over the next couple of days, there will possibly be flooding in some parts too.”

As if the rain isn’t bad enough, winds are expected to pick up as well. O’Shea explained: “It will be gale force eight at seas. There will be strong, gusty winds over land but it should be down to 60 kilometres per hour at the most.”

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will see much of the same with heavy downpours and stormy conditions but the end of the week and the bank holiday weekend (woohoo!) will see drier spells.

Until then, it’s probably best to stay in with your onesie on and a cup of hot chocolate in your hand!
