Hundreds of people from all over the UK turned out to attend the funeral of Harold Jellicoe “Coe” Percival, a World War Two veteran who died alone last month in a nursing home, aged 99.

Over the weekend we posted the touching obituary  for the veteran and the amazing response the newspaper piece received after going viral.

Harold was a World War II veteran, that had never married, had no close friends and in a bid to give him the send off he deserved, funeral organisers appealed for people to pay their respects as “a single man, he has no close family who can attend his funeral.”

Reverend Alan Clark, who carried out the service, said: “We marvel at the power of the printed word, whether on paper or screen.”
