If you’re heading out to celebrate the start of 2016, you might want to plan your outfit with some serious woolly accessories to keep you warm.
According to Met Éireann, the miserable weather of the past few days will continue to take over the New Year’s Eve celebrations, with the sunny spells clearing for widespread, heavy showers lasting into the afternoon.
For anyone frightened of thunder, it might be time to duck for cover under the duvet.
With afternoon temperatures dipping to just 3 to 6C, there’s a strong chance of sleet and snow in places, with a strong and gusty southwest to westerly winds sure to send shivers down your spine.
As the parties start to kick off, showers will ease off and become confined to coastal areas of the west and north.
Partygoers won’t be off the hook that easily though, with nighttime temperatures dipping to an icy -2C to +2C.
So if you’re heading off for a party, or planning on a day out with family, be sure to keep the woolly hat and gloves at the ready – you’re going to need them.
