Spaniards in general know a thing or two about wine. But that may not necessarily apply to this particular group of Spaniards.
A posse of young self-titled “dudes” from Madrid have introduced blue wine to the market. Why? Well, why not?
The producers of Gik don’t have a track record or family background in the production of wine, but why should that stop them, they argue, when it’s all “for fun” and “To shake things up a bit and see what happens.”
The strikingly-coloured beverage is made from a blend of red and white grapes, dyed blue with anthocyanin (found in the skin of grapes) and indigo.
“We wanted to create an innovative and daring product in tune with the changing world – the wine industry needs a little revolution,” a spokesman told Olive Press.
The company website describes the colour blue as representing “movement, innovation, fluidity, change and infinity”.
Its creators say the wine is best paired with sushi, nachos with guacamole, Tzatziki sauce, pasta carbonara and smoked salmon and should be served chilled. If you fancy an adventurous bottle this weekend, it will set you back €10 and probably turn your tongue blue…
