It’s been 3 years since the sixth installment of Polyphony Digital’s hugely successful racing game series and we were long left wondering what the team of developers had in store for us racing fans.
Gran Turismo 6 has finally been released and overall it’s a fun game that’s a great improvement on GT5.
It’s sleek, has slick handling, boasts a variety of new tracks and as always, offers a selection of new cars, including the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, Aston Martin V12 Vantage and Ferrari Dino 246 GT.
The game has around 1200 cars, and 71 different layouts so you’re spoiled for choice in terms of where you want to share your driving experience. Podium positions earn credits and stars that’re needed to unlock further events and outside the career modes you’ll find new special events that even swap races on earth for the moon (seriously).
But yet behind all the gloss and glamour, some familiar GT gripes make unwelcome appearances in the game. Some of the older models of cars from previous series like GT4, aesthetically look somewhat off and even a bit blocky with blurred car numbers and edges.
As well as the occasional bit of blocky graphics, there are a few issues with the quality of sound effects, with collisions seeming more like feeble thuds than crashes. Sadly the sound design remains weak and it still feels like they’re still searching for the perfect racing game in GT6, but they’re not quite there yet.
But despite its minor faults, it’s still worth checking out if you’re a racing fan and in terms of gameplay and you will be kept occupied whizzing around the diverse tracks.
Is it better than Forza Motorsport 5? We’re not too sure, but the game has great game handling and is accessible for even the most amateur of drivers.
