Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was reportedly the subject of an attempted assault in Dublin on Thursday November 8th.
According to the Irish Independent, Ahern was attending a public servant’s retirement party when the incident occurred.
Dubliner Ray Connolly apparently became very annoyed when Bertie made a joke about “the good old days” and began laughing.

Apparently the Dubliner approached Bertie and attempted to take a swing at him with his crutch.
“He’s put a lot of people in a terrible situation. I’ve two kids – he’s put €30,000 on their heads each,” he explained to the paper.
Mr. Connolly was removed from the bar after the incident. The owner of the Sean O’Casey pub refused to comment on the incident but an onlooker confirmed that it had happened.
The Guardian have since reported that the man in question was said to be extremely drunk and was later arrested and detained overnight for another minor incident.
Mr. Ahern has declined to discuss the incident with the press.
