You’ve studied for years, put in the hard graft and now you’re about to go collect that college certificate. Chances are you’re wearing your cap and gown with pride. Unless you’re from China. That’s where you whip out the wedding dress.
The latest trend to hit China is college women spurning their caps and gowns to rock a selection of white tulle and frills instead.
The wedding dress “represents that our youth is fading,” said Zhang Xuehui, a 24-year-old senior who recently graduated with classmates.
Another friend, Ms Liu, told the Wall Street Journal:.
“The wedding dress makes things feel more meaningful.
“It’s just about creating a memory. After all, we all want to preserve images of our most beautiful selves.”
The dresses are rented for about $7 a day, and graduates gather friends for a series of graduation/ wedding portraits. While some students pose with tiaras or jewelled headpieces, others choose veils or lacy trains.
Unlike Ireland, the Chinese graduation ceremonies are a low-key affair with parents rarely attending so students make the most of it by snapping unusual snaps with friends.
The playful graduation photos have included students dressed as pirates, wearing hard hats and carrying tools.
So what are the men wearing? Everything from suits to fake moustaches and dressing as soccer players.
If this is the graduation, we wonder what the actual wedding ceremonies will be like.
