Here's what it's looking like for Christmas day.

So far December has been so mild that we were actually starting to freak out about some sort of apocalypse.

Thankfully, it turns out there is nothing sinister at play here, and temperatures are set to plummet this week. Phew.

thank god

Forecasters predict that temperatures will drop to close to freezing later this week, from a nice mild 12 degrees celcius to a chilly 1 in some parts of the country.

Met Eireann meteorologist Pat Clarke told the Irish Mirror: “At the moment it looks like Christmas Eve and Christmas morning will start off cold with frost.

“Nothing serious, but given we have had little to none this month it will be a change.

“The temperatures will be up and down all week. Some days they will be up at 10C to 12C and other days it will be closer to 7C, with temperatures dropping a lot lower later in the week, maybe between 1C and 5C – around normal for the time of year.”

According to Clarke, the weather will be unsettled between now and Christmas, and while it looks like Christmas day itself will be dry, there may be showery spells soon after.

He added: “It looks like late on Christmas Day leading into Stephen’s Day there could be some more rain coming in from the Atlantic.”
