Food High Five – Five Reasons Watermelon Is Good For You

Every week, for our ‘Food High Five’ series, we talk about certain foods that have great health benefits.

This week, we’re looking at watermelon.

Not only is it the perfect summer snack but it’s also super tasty and incredibly healthy, which means you need to add it to your shopping list!

Watermelon Possibly the most energising fruit around town. Why? It has vitamin B6, which is a natural energizer.

Good for your heart

Watermelon contains an antioxidant called lycopene which helps to fight heart disease. It also improves circulation in general.

Fights infections and heals wounds

Because it is full of vitamins, including A and C, it’s an immune-boosting food. As well as fighting infection, it is said to heal wounds faster.

Soothes muscles

If you exercise regularly or are prone to sore muscles after a tough workout, you should definitely incorporate some watermelon into your daily diet.

Prevents stress

Due to the amount of potassium it contains, watermelon helps to control blood pressure and thus keeps stress levels under control.

Helps weight loss

This is one of those foods that is low in terms of calories but is high in terms of water content meaning it keep you full without adding on the pounds.
