Five Things You Really Should See In… London

Her

If you’re thinking of a quick trip across the Irish Sea, we’ve got the heads up on five things you really should see and do for any trip to London.

Buckingham Palace

You may not exactly be invited in for afternoon tea with the Queen, Buckingham Palace is a definite ‘must-see’ on a trip to the English capital. If you visit at the right time in the summer, you can actually get inside (while the Winsors are on their holidays don’t you know). Of course you can visit The Queen’s Gallery at any time of the year and view her personal collection of treasures, which is as impressive as you can imagine. Take a couple of pictures with the famous Beefeaters outside too, just try not to torment them too much!

The West End

If you’re any sort of a musical theatre fan, the West End is the place to be for a London visit. At any time of year there will be countless shows to choose from, and ticket prices to suit all budgets. At the minute, you can see the likes of Billy Ellliot, The Book of Mormon, Les Miserables and The Commitments, to name but a few. Half price tickets are available for many shows on the day, so if you don’t have your heart set on one in particular, you’re sure to find something that suits.

The Tower of London

Prepare for crowds and wear your best walking/climbing shoes, but do make the Tower of London a stop-off on your London tour. You’ll get a close-up look at the crown of Queen Victoria and the armour or King Henry VIII in this 900 year old building. Allow a full day if you can, if you’re a history buff you’ll find so much information to fill your hours, and your mind! A free tour may be the best way to take it in. Happily, there are plenty on offer!

The London Eye

Rest those weary feet as you take in a bird’s eye view of London from one of the world’s largest observation wheels. In half an hour, you can see all of the city’s most impressive sites. Each pod on the Eye has a touchscreen computer which can explain exactly what you’re looking at or for at any given time. Book your tickets online in advance to save some cash, and if you really want to make it a special trip you can add a bottle of champagne or an afternoon tea to your circuit!

Hyde Park

On a sunny day there are few better ways to pass the hours than a trip to Hyde Park. One of the English capital’s eight Royal Parks, Hype Park attracts millions of visitors every year to its 350 acres. In the park you’ll find a number of famous landmarks including the Serpentine Lake, Speakers’ Corner and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain.
