Families can no longer take photos during Communion and Confirmation ceremonies due to strict rules introduced by the Catholic Church.
It’s believed that parishes across Ireland have been given instructions to implement a strict policy around phototaking during such ceremonies amid fears that the images could fall into the hands of “potential abusers”.
According to the Irish Independent, the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCC) has urged parishes to introduce robust child protection policies, which a”implemented consistently”.
“It’s to avoid a situation whereby photos get into the wrong hands of potential abusers,” said Ger Kenny, spokesman for the NBSCCC.
“The risk issue is people will be taking pictures of kids who are not related to them, and for inappropriate reasons.”
