FAIL! Newspaper Names the “Top 10 British Accents” – and Irish Tops the List

There's nothing wrong with British accents, we're big fans of a few of them ourselves... so you'd think they would be able to find a list of ten that didn't include Irish.

Well thank goodness for that.

Times are tough for most of us who’ve actually opted to stay in Ireland during the recession, but at least little compliments like this bring a ray of sunshine into an otherwise dreary day – rest assured that your Kerry/Dublin/Cork/Donegal twang means you have the most popular BRITISH accent of all!

In a hilarious epic fail, The Daily Mail posted an article online this evening that listed the “Top Ten British Accents”, and wouldn’t you know it – an Irish brogue topped the list. The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue and One Direction’s Niall Horan were listed as prime examples of the ‘soft Irish lilt’.

Good for us! The list as published on The Daily Mail this evening…

West Country Brits must be particularly annoyed as it’s their accent we pipped to the post, while the Geordie accent had to settle for third. The TOWIE-style Essex accent ranked tenth on the list but we’ll borrow a phrase from the Essex crew to express our feelings on this one. Shut UP!
