In our minds, Emma Watson will always be Hermoine Granger from the Harry Potter movies, although the actress has said that she’s hoping her new film will help her to “graduate” and move away from her Harry Potter past.

The Irish Independent reports that Emma has revealed that shooting her new film The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is based on the Stephen Chbosky novel, is her “graduation” from the role of Hermoine Granger.

This will be hard for a lot of us to deal with, seeing as how most of us grew up alongside Emma as she played the part of Hermoine, but anyway, maybe it’s time we all moved on (sob!).

The 22-year-old, who plays the role of rebellious high school student Sam in the new film, said that shooting the infamous scene where Sam stands up in a car as her friends drive through a tunnel, made her feel that she had finally put her Hogwarts years behind her.

“I started as Emma with some Hermoine still left in my system. I went through the tunnel and I came out ready to start something new,” she said, speaking to Entertainment Weekly.

Emma also stated that working on the film itself has also been a life-changing experience for her.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Ezra Miller, Emma Watson and Logan Lerman.

“At our initial meeting, he [Stephen] said, ‘Okay, not only is this going to be one of the most important parts you play, you’re also going to have the summer of your life and meet some of your best friends’,” she said.

“I thought, ‘That’s quite a claim. Who is this guy?’ Everything he said came true,” she added.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower hits cinemas later this year, and if you haven’t read the book we highly recommend you get your hands on a copy before you go and see the movie.
