Eight Break-Up Songs The Beatles Could Have Sung When Paul Quit The Band

McCartney announced 43 years ago he was officially leaving the band, luckily they were prepared for him walking out the door...

On this day back in 1970, Paul McCartney released a press release to announce that he was indeed leaving the Beatles. McCartney hadn’t really playing with the band for quite a few months but the press release made the whole thing official. On the other hand, the Beatles knew a thing or two about heartbreak. Here are eight break-up songs they could have sung for the occasion.

1. Yesterday

The most covered song of all time, Yesterday is one of the most popular break-up songs ever.

2. You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away

Heavily influenced by Bob Dylan, this is really one that takes some sobbing while singing…

3. For No One

And in her eyes you see nothing, no sign of love…

4. This Boy

Lennon probably sang this, pleading with McCartney not to leave. We know he didn’t but it’s nice to speculate…

5. Hey Jude

We might insist if there are break-ups in your future, you would stick this on and sing it out at the top of your lungs. You will feel a hundred times better. That’s what Paul did.

6. And Your Bird Can Sing

But you don’t get me…

7. We Can Work It Out

But we can’t Paul. We just can’t.

8. Let it be…

Perhaps the soundest break-up advice of all…
