United Left Alliance TD for Dublin North Clare Daly has confirmed on air she was stopped by Gardaí on suspicion of drink driving last night.
Daly told RTÉ news this evening that she accepted full responsibility for her actions.
She said she had drank a hot whiskey that evening for a cold.
She also said that if taking a hot whiskey had put her over the limit it was obviously a very serious mistake.
Social media network Twitter is already hosting a discussion on the incident.
