Dreading Monday? This Is The Profession Officially Facing Their Busiest Day Of The Year

This is not what we expected at all.

Sure the abundance of time spent with our families over the Christmas break has made us acutely aware of their flaws, but we still love the buggers.

Sadly not everyone agrees. In fact, there are so many family arguments during the festive season that the first Monday after New Year’s is the busiest day of the year for divorce lawyers. So much so that the first Monday in January is commonly known as divorce day.

As grim.

“Every year we see a marked rise in enquiries and instructions in January from people who have decided that the time is right to separate from their partner,” said Alison Hawes, a specialist divorce and family lawyer with Irwin Mitchell told The Metro.

“Financial pressures are also known to be key issues in arguments at this time of year with 40% of parents admitting that this was causing strains in their relationship.”

Hawes also reported that her firm have been up to 25% busier in January than any other month.
