Doing this one thing together makes for a happier relationship

Interesting.

Like we needed another reason anyway.

There’s no conclusive method to achieving a lifelong happy relationship. There are definitely a few ways to try at least, for instance by being loving, kind and loyal, but this latest secret to a successful marriage is a very interesting method.

A new study has revealed that couples who drink together, stay together. That’s not limited to getting drunk together but, instead, the study outlined drinking habits in general. So, couples who shared the same drinking habits had a happier longer relationship.

The Journals of Gerontology Series B: Psychological Series, published a study which saw that couples who drank together had less negative relationship quality.

According to Mashable, the study did notice a pattern in couples over 50, whereby better marriages resulted when both partners either drank or abstained, rather than if one of the people in the relationship drank while the other remained sober. If that were to happen that’s where they began to become unsatisfied in the relationship.

The result of the study was as follows, “wives who reported drinking alcohol reported decreased negative marital quality over time when husbands also reported drinking, and increased negative marital quality over time when husbands reported not drinking.”

Study author Dr. Kira Birditt told Reuters, “We’re not suggesting that people should drink more or change the way they drink. We’re not sure why this is happening, but it could be that couples that do more leisure time activities together have better marital quality.”

Dr. Fred Blow added, “Serious heavy drinkers have disruptive relationships with people, particularly their partners. That’s an important issue that should be looked at going forward.”
