Make your world a little greener by conserving energy at home with these simple tips. Bonus? You'll save money too!

Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next few weeks.

Be smart when it comes to lighting

One of the easiest ways to save money when it comes to energy is to rethink the ways in which you light the rooms in your home.

Obviously one of the ways that you can cut your electricity bill in half is by switching your lightbulbs to special energy-saving ones, which we’ve discussed already. As well as doing this, you can also make savings by remembering to switch off the lights when you leave a room.

To ensure that you get the best bang for your buck with regards to the lights in your home, make sure that you regularly clean light fittings, reflectors and lampshades.

Another way that you can save money is to use “task” lighting rather than lighting up an entire room. If you’re doing something that only requires a small amount of light, like reading for example, simply sit under a single lamp rather than turning on every light in the room.
