The price of our weekly shop can be monstrous but lucky for you we're here to help you save some pennies!

Her

We have all experienced how grocery shopping can get out of hand and there is nothing scarier than an astronomical bill at the supermarket checkout. We spend a huge proportion of our wages on food shopping particularly so when we have a family to feed and the price of the weekly shop can leave you feeling a little bit faint. We have some tips to help you cut down your grocery shopping and reduce that monstrous weekly expense.

Plan, Plan, Plan

On Sunday evening, sit down at your kitchen table and plan your family’s dinners and lunches for the week. Make a list of the ingredients you will need for these dinners and bring it with you to the supermarket. This will save you money because you will buy just what you need and not an array of unnecessary food items that you won’t use. Organisation is the key to cutting down your grocery bill.

Keep an Eye Out for Deals

Many butchers throughout the country are running excellent bundle deals and freezer packs which can be better value than buying supermarket meat day by day. The same goes with Fishmongers and Fruit and Vegetable Shops. It is worth keeping an eye on your town’s local businesses because often the produce is better than the supermarket and can be more affordable.

Leave the Children at Home

Children are notorious for throwing unwanted junk into your shopping basket and if possible it is best to leave them at home when you’re shopping. If you are lucky enough to live near a late night supermarket take advantage of it by shopping in the evening while your other half watches the kids.

Buy Supermarket Brand Products

Some people have the opinion that supermarket brands are not as good as their counterparts but we are big advocates of the cheaper alternatives. They are a lot less expensive and will help you in your quest to dramatically cut down your grocery bill.

Don’t Go Shopping When You are Hungry

A sure way to hike up your grocery bill is to shop when you’re hungry. You will be tempted towards those yummy treat aisles which will not help the size of your bill. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!
