There was a tense wait for the Irish Under 17 squad over the last few days but it has now been officially confirmed that they will progress on to the European Finals this summer.

Dave Connell’s side finished their Elite Phase group unbeaten earlier this week, and finished best runners up out of the six qualifying groups.

They had to wait until all games were played on Thursday before the news was confirmed by UEFA.

This now sees the side travelling to the finals which will be held in Iceland in June where they will take their place in the last eight in Europe.

“It’s been a hard wait but probably as far back as Tuesday evening we were pretty confident that things would go our way,” said coach Dave Connell.

“You always have to wait for UEFA confirmation with these situations and the girls had been on to me morning noon and night so it is great for them that it’s now confirmed. I am delighted for them.”
