#CashThatStash – And Bag Yourself €2000 for Your Unused Goods

Learn how to make money from the unused goods cluttering up your home!

Rebecca McKnight

According to research carried out by eBay.ie, Irish households are hoarding unwanted items to the value of €3.1bn, with each home clinging on to an average of 41 items that amount to €2,135 worth.

This Saturday, May 18th, eBay.ie wants to help Irish people to Cash that Stash and make money from their unwanted items.

Gary Hagel, Senior Director of Customer Experience, based in Dublin’s eBay offices, said: “According to our research, the average Irish family has over €2,000 worth of unused items in their home, so we’re challenging Ireland to ‘cash that stash’ with eBay.ie and PayPal.  My team will be providing advice to help get you started with the smart shopping trend: using the things you don’t need to buy the things that you want.”

eBay.ie Cash that Stash will take place in The Little Museum of Dublin, St. Stephen’s Green, and members of the public can drop in and learn with free advice teaching them how to sell on eBay.

With experts from eBay, PayPal and An Post, attendees will be able to get advice  about everything from inspiration to registration, from photography and packaging through to accepting safer, faster and easier payments with PayPal.

Cash that Stash is a free, one-stop shop on how to make money using eBay.ie.  Savvy sellers on eBay.ie demand, on average, €155 per mobile phone, €39 per handbag and €172per laptop meaning there’s value lurking around Irish homes that could be used to alleviate financial pressures or be simply used to buy something new. Members of the public can just drop by and leave with a wealth of knowledge on how to sell.

Inspired by eBay.ie’s #CashThatStash campaign, Irish celebrities have been raiding their wardrobes for eBay.ie charity auction in aid of the Tricia McCarthy Memorial Scholarship with the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.

In 2007, 27 year old artist Tricia McCarthy was diagnosed with breast cancer. For three years, she fought a courageous battle but sadly in February 2010, she passed away.  Her sister, popular writer and broadcaster Triona McCarthy, was inspired by the loss of such a precious life to do something positive about it and so she set up the Tricia McCarthy Memorial Scholarship which honours Tricia and pays for a researcher for a year. It’s the NBCRI’s research which helps to establish the causes and factors that influence breast cancer and therefore help to develop effective screening, treatments and medication to combat it.

Bid on a Hermés scarf donated by Kate Moss’s best friend, celebrity hairdresser James Brown, generous donations from TV3’s Lisa Cannon and Laura Bermingham and amazing fashion finds donated by stylists Cathy O’Connor and Courtney Smith to name but a few.

All the items are part of a live ten day auction on eBay.ie. All money raised will be matched by eBay.ie and go direct to this inspirational and worthwhile cause. You can check out the stylish buys available in the shop here
