A newly married couple were shocked to find out that they were, in fact, grandfather and granddaughter.
The couple, who are from America, began dating after they met online. It wasn’t until three months after their wedding that they made the discovery that they were related. They were looking in a photo album belonging to the groom when the bride recognised her dad (his son) in one of the photos.
Both were no longer in contact with their families which meant that the connection between them had never been established. The man, now 68 years old, hadn’t seen his first wife or their children in years after she left him. He went on to have another wife and more children who he divorced in 2009.
Then he decided he wanted to meet someone new so he joined a dating website and this is where he met his bride-to-be and granddaughter, who is 28 years old.
The woman was no longer in touch with her father after he kicked her out of the house for becoming pregnant. While the groom knew about this he never knew it was his eldest son.
Speaking about how they met, he told the Florida Sun Post:
‘They had a website with profiles of many attractive younger girls. I just felt something strange when I saw her photos.
“It was like a sense of deja vu, but at the time I couldn’t figure out why she seemed so familiar.
“We just hit it off right from when she walked into the restaurant.”
Reflecting on the first time she made the discovery she said:
“When I saw my father in that photo album, I just felt an overwhelming sense of despair.”
The couple have vowed to make the relationship work and are not getting a divorce. He added, “I’ve already had two failed marriages and I’m determined not to have a third”, while she said, “I feel our bond is so strong that even something like this is not enough to make us give up.”
