Newstalk have revealed that broadcaster Pat Kenny is due to leave RTE by the end of this month and will be joining their station as a new presenter.

The station have revealed the Prime Time presenter will be joining the station on September 2nd.

Newstalk presenter Chris O’Donoghue confirmed today that the former host of the Late Late Show will be presenting a new mid-morning programme from 10am to 12.30pm daily.

Kenny is currently the host of Today with Pat Kenny on RTE Radio 1 which runs from 10am to 12pm.

Unfortunately, this calls into question the future of the presenter Tom Dunne who is currently in the time slot of 10am to 12pm on Newstalk.

Kenny said he is looking forward to the challenge: “Now is the time. There probably won’t the opportunity to do this in future. Newstalk is a pretty blank canvas. That’s what makes it exciting.”

Newstalk station editor Garrett Harte confirmed they were excited about the news: “This is a great day for Newstalk and great day for independent radio sector.”

RTE also confirmed the news that Kenny would be leaving after a 41-year career at the station. Among the shows he presented in his time there included the Late Late Show, Kenny Live, Frontline and Today Tonight.
