Back for a second year, Bord Gáis Energy Donate a Library is calling out for people across Ireland to be local heroes in their community by nominating groups and charities they would like to see receive a library worth €1,500.
To celebrate the launch of this nationwide library giveaway, unique ‘Book Nooks’ will be popping up in cities around the country. Passersby will be encouraged to stop at these Book Nooks, relax with a book and feel inspired to share the pleasure of reading. Visitors will also be encouraged to nominate a local group or organisation they would like to see receive a library of their own.
This initiative gives Bord Gáis Energy customers, Book Club members and the general public an opportunity to ‘pay it forward’ and nominate a local community, charity or voluntary group to receive a free library for their organisation.
In 2013, Bord Gáis Energy received over 250 nominations from organisations across Ireland and donated libraries to communities in Donegal and Mayo. Spreading the joy of reading even further this year, Bord Gáis Energy has decided to make a greater donation of seven libraries in 2014, starting off with one library per province in June.
Emma Walsh, Bord Gáis Energy Books and Reading Sponsorship Programme Manager, said “We’re delighted with the response to the Donate a Library initiative. We’ve learned over the years, through our backing of these types of programmes, just how much pleasure books and reading bring to our customers and we’re thrilled to be able to share that even wider. By giving away this many libraries to worthy organisations that may not be able to afford one themselves, we feel that we can really support their access to books and reading.”
Those wishing to nominate an organisation for a Bord Gáis Energy Library can do so at www.BGEbookclub.ie. Applications are welcome from individuals and groups throughout Ireland involved in community, charity or local organisations that are not-for-profit. All nominations will be reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of Emma Walsh, Bord Gáis Energy Books & Reading Sponsorship Programme Manager; Sinead Desmond, Presenter of Ireland AM and Gert Ackermann from Ireland’s support and representation network for the community and voluntary sector, The Wheel.
