Irish weather forecasters are warning that there could be a risk of flooding today and have also revealed that there is a chance of winds of up to 110kph hitting our fair isle tomorrow.

In the wake of Hurricane Gonzalo, which hit Bermuda yesterday, the National Hurricane Centre has stated that the tail-end of the storm could well hit Irish shores tomorrow evening, leaving in its wake winds of up to 110kph and torrential rain.

“The remnants of Gonzalo…westerly winds increasing to near gale force at times, as high as 110kph in exposed coastal areas by late evening through early morning Tuesday,” stated Irish Weather Online. “The peak of this storm is likely to be around midnight to 6am on the west coast.”

The Met Office have also advised that the strong winds could cause trees and branches to fall down and drivers are being reminded to take extra caution tomorrow evening.

“Monday night is a very wet and very windy night,” reads the Met Éireann forecast. “Heavy spells of rain will be accompanied by southerly gales veering northwesterly.”
