Baby Born At 25 Weeks Finally able to Fly Home Thanks to The Incredible Generosity of an Anonymous Donor

The kindness of the Irish

Cassie Delaney

Remember the story of Zoe? The miracle baby was born at only 25 weeks on a transatlantic flight that had to be diverted to Dublin last October.

She was cared for in The Rotunda Hospital where she first weighed a minuscule 2lbs.

Now at 3kgs, she is healthy enough to make the journey back to Tennessee. Unfortunately, the journey can’t be completed on a normal plane. Instead parents Jenny and Gavin Drake were told they would need to get a special chartered flight.

It would cost €60,000.

A GoFundMe Appeal was set up to help the family and it raised half the money but at €30,000 short, the family appeared on the Ray Darcy show on Monday to share their story.

Through the show, an anonymous kind samaritan got in touch to say they would like to contribute the remaining €30,000.

The donor, married with two daughters, said his family wanted to remain anonymous, but Jenny was told by Darcy that she would be given the donor’s name and an opportunity to thank him in person.

“He’s 100 per cent above board, and he 100 percent wants to fund the repatriation of Zoe Ireland to her home country of America,” Darcy said on air.

“Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, I’m not going to be able to talk. Wow”, she responded.

“You should have prepared me for this if you could,” she stammered. “Oh my goodness, that’s amazing”.

The family are expected to return to the states as soon as viably possible.
